Material Design is a design language developed in 2014 by Google. It encompasses grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows. Most of Google’s mobile applications and web apps have been converted to this new design language. You can read more about it in the official material design page.

There is a provision to enable Material Design in Google Chrome too.
How to enable Google’s Material design in Chrome?
Go to chrome://flags. This page will have a lot of options to customize Chrome browser. The easiest way to get around Material design related options is to search the page.
Press Ctrl+F or Cmd+F. In the search input box, type in “material design”. This will highlight the material design related options which you could enable.

Enable the respective options and you will see them in material design. The changes will reflect only on relaunching the browser.
