Whatsapp Status is live across the world. What’s so different about it ?

Nothing. Like Snapchat & Instagram, WhatsApp is also bringing its own version of Stories. And they call it “Status”. 

Facebook was once rumored to have tried to acquire Snapchat. It seems like that the social-networking giant is trying to compete with Snapchat by implementing similar functionalities in the apps it owns. Facebook has introduced the feature already in Instagram and now it has advanced to WhatsApp. 

Similar to Instagram & Snapchat, the WhatsApp stories will only last 24 hours. 

How to use WhatsApp Status?

Once you’ve updated to the latest version of WhatsApp, you will see Status as part of the WhatsApp Tab bar. Tap on the status tab and you will see the new updated status of your friends.

The status section is divided into Recent Updates (Unseen), Viewed Updates and then My Status. You can tap on any story to view and similar to Instagram & Snap, the story will play and you can reply or send message from the story.

To see who has viewed your story, open your own story and swipe up. The person who viewed your story along with timestamp will be shown. The option to block people from viewing your story will also be present in the swipe up menu.

How to post Status?

There are two ways to post Stories in Whatsapp. 

One way is to click on the New Camera/Stories tab added to the main tab menu. 

Other way is to click on the Status Tab and then click on the icon at the top left corner of the screen. 

General Privacy Settings

Privacy Settings There are three options to prefer who you would like to see your posts.

• Your contacts :- Status will be visible to all your contacts. 
• Your contacts except :- All your contacts except the contacts you choose. 
• Only Share with:- Share only to specific contacts.

To access these settings, in the Status Tab, on the top left there is an option called Privacy. 

The initial release doesn’t allow you to add text or smileys or effects to your images.
